Ho Ho Ho Christmas is here - but what to wear???

So it's that time of the year again, when the Christmas lights are all over the city and the "Merry Christmas" songs are playing on the radio... People are running around to shop all the gifts and there is a feeling of joy everywhere.

But this is also the time for the annual Christmas parties and the stress that most of us women have around what to wear for this special occasion.

You probably don´t want to wear something that makes you stand out too much in a negative way but you still want to stand out from the clothes you normally wear. But you do wanna wear something that will make the cute guy from accounting that you have been flirting with, to notice you in a good way.

So girls, if you stand on between what I mentioned above, here are my two party outfits for Christmas this year. Whether you're a dress girl or a pants girl. here are some tips that can help you out.

A dress is a classic choice but it does not have to be the classic little black dress. So, why not try a new colour or shape. A bright colour dress can make you feel free and change your mood. so don´t be afraid of it.
Dress from Missguided; Clutch from AX Paris; Heels from Carvela; Bracelet from Anna Lou of London

My choice goes for a bit of glam in this party dress from Missguided. It's cool design will elongate your body and will make you longer. In this case, I chose to not over accessorize it because the dress itself is a "look at me" design, so a simple bracelet and a golden clutch bag will do the job.

A Jumpsuit is a perfect choice if you are more of a pants girl. It is a feminine and sexy piece of clothing without being too much over the top. It's also comfortable and it will make you look and feel tall. It can also give you shape and hide a few lumps and bumps that you don't want to emphasize.
Jumpsuit from French Connection; Snake Print Clutch from AX Paris; Necklace from Miss Selfridge;
Bracelet Stack from Limited Edition from New Look

My choice for the jumpsuit is this sexy Jumpsuit from French Connection. It is smart and sexy and its low back makes you stand out even when you are backwards. It's a great statement piece and you can wear it for every kind of party. Dress it up with a pair of heels and a glam statement necklace for the perfect look.

Lastly, for the perfect Christmas party outfit make sure you wear the right make up. Smokey eyes, red lips and nails will be a great choice with both of these outfits (examples below are from Missguided).

I hope these tips help you out.
Merry Christmas!

How to Wear Printed Trousers to Work

Trousers are probably the most used item in our wardrobes, because they can be stylish, comfortable and suitable for an everyday use. They can be styled in so many different ways, depending on your style and the occasion you’re going to, however it can be hard to pull of printed trousers.

So we gathered a few outfits recommended by our fashion stylists that can help you wear print trousers to work.

Style Tip: Prints can be great to disguise a few bumps, but the wrong print in the wrong colours can draw unnecessary attention to an area you don’t want to draw attention to, so make sure you choose your patterns and prints wisely, depending on your body shape.

Styled by Sabrina Woolley, the first outfit is based on a pair of Tile Print Trousers from New Look, a Black Leather T-Shirt from Miss Selfridge, a Black Bowler Bag from Miss Selfridge, a pair of Strap Heel Platforms from Boohoo and a Golden Chain Bracelet from Miss Selfridge. These trousers will look great on Inverted Triangle, Oval and Diamond body shapes.

The second look, styled by Ria Johnson, is based on a pair of Pink Floral Print Trousers from French Connection, a Black Sleeveless Shell Top from New Look, a Black and Gold Clutch from New Look, a pair of Metallic Heel Courts from Boohoo and a Strap Watch from New Look. These trousers will look great on hourglass shapes.

The next look was also styled by Sabrina Woolley and it will look great on straight, hourglass and pear shapes. The outfit is based on a pair of Geometric Print Trousers from French Connection, a Black Oversized Blouse from Missguided, a Winged Tote Bag from New Look, Aztec Earrings from New Look and a pair of Foxy Sandal Shoes from Simply Be.

What to Wear to an Evening Event

The weekend is almost here... hurray!!!! To celebrate this, we gathered two outfit ideas that could give you some ideas on what to wear an evening event. Depending on your style, body shape and age, these outfits can be a real traffic stopper.

The first look is based on a Little Black Dress (LBD) and is a more classic and chic approach. Styled by Alex Moore, this outfit is based on a Sleeves Textured Dress from French Connection, a Tweed Piped Cape from Dorothy Perkins, a Leather Tote Bag from French Connection, and a pair of Leather Shoe Boots from French Connection. You could wear this gorgeous outfit to a date, dinner with friends or even a more formal dinner (eg: company dinner).

Tip: If you're not comfortable in wearing a mini dress, change it for a midi length dress and it will look perfect as well.

The second outfit is a more fun and girly look. Styled by Sabrina Woolley, this is a great look to wear to a more "fun" party. It's based on a Red Skater Skirt from Miss Selfridge, a Black Long Sleeve Crop Top from New Look, a Red Stepped Clutch from Dorothy Perkins, a Gold Cut Out Necklace from Miss Selfridge and a pair of Black Suede Sandals from Ravel.

Tip: If you're not a fan of crop tops, change it for a simple black sleeve top and it will look great as well.

The third look (and last) is based on a gorgeous A-line dress from Dorothy Perkins. the A-line makes this dress perfect for Pear, Diamond and Inverted Triangle shapes. For the Pear and Diamond shapes it disguises the wider hip, and for the inverted triangle shape it gives it a wider volume to the hips, balancing your frame and creating an hourglass shape.

This outfit, styled by Gitte Eigner, is great to wear to an evening event and it has a modern vibe to it. The Black Cutwork Dress is from Dorothy Perkins, the Cut out purse is from New Look, the Sling Shoes from Simply Be and the Triangle Earrings are from New Look.

Tip: For a more chilly weather, layer this dress with a jacket of your choice. A biker jacket would look great, but depends on what kind of evening event you're attending.

Outfits: How to Wear a Jumpsuit

Struggling on how to wear a jumpsuit? Our stylists styled 4 outfits that will surely help you, whether you're going to a dinner with friends, work, party or cocktail event.

Jumpsuits are very trendy right now and are a very chic option to dresses, especially in the cold weather. If you want to have a “wow” moment with something other than a dress, then a jumpsuit will be perfect for you.

We’ve been seeing this glamorous one piece wear in catwalks all over the world from major designers and also worn by celebrities. Now they’re all over the high street. Some of you, however, are struggling in how to style jumpsuits and that’s why we gathered a few ideas.

Below, you’ll find some outfits styled by the Styling Up stylists, based on jumpsuits from high street labels, and also a few tips on which ones will look best on your body shape.

Outfit 1: Going to a fun party?

Styled by Gitte Eigner, this look is great to wear to a party or cocktail. This jumpsuit is from Missguided and has a heart neckline that is great to show off the shoulder area. The bottom of the jumpsuit, with its wider legs design, makes it a perfect choice for most body shapes that don’t carry much weight in the bust area. It will look even more perfect in pear shaped bodies, straight shapes, and diamond body shapes.

Swirl Bracelet from AX Paris; Slingback Heel Shoes from Simply Be

Outfit 2: From work to evening

The second outfit was styled by Ria Johnson and is a great outfit to wear both to work (if you have of course a more formal work) and to evening. You can pull this outfit all day from work to pub and dinner. The jumpsuit is also from Missguided and it has a sexy zipper at the front that gives a touch of sexiness. The slim fit trousers make it a great option for straight body shapes. If you want, you can also add a belt to this look to emphasize more your waist.

Outfit 3: Have a chic cocktail event to go to?

Based on a white jumpsuit from Missguided, this look has a glamorous style based on this season’s monochrome trend. Styled by Gitte Eigner, this look is great to wear to a cocktail event and it has a chic feel to it. The jumpsuit itself has a stunning neck detail that makes it even more glamorous and overall it draws attention to the shoulder area. This jumpsuit is a great option for hourglass shapes, straight shapes and pear body shapes as well.

This black jumpsuit is also from Missguided and its ruffles at the top make it a great choice for straight, hourglass and pear body shapes. The Inverted Triangle shape can also look good in this jumpsuit, depending on the size of the bust.

Outfits of the week

This week we selected two gorgeous outfits that are both suitable for a day to night transition. You can wear them to work and, after work, you can go straight to a pub and have a cosmo.

The first outfit was styled by our fashion stylist Ria Johnson. It’s based on a pair of  slim fit monochrome trousers from Dorothy Perkins, a black wrap top from Dorothy Perkins, a pair of black leather courts from Dorothy Perkins, a Red Clutch from New Look, and a chunky golden sports watch from New Look. You can also layer it with a jacket, like a biker jacket, or even a more cozy jacket. This outfit has a classic style with a more modern twist. Great to wear from day to night.

The second outfit, styled by Alex Moore, is also a great outfit to wear to work and/or evening. This outfit is based on a v-neck floral print dress from French Connection, a leather look biker jacket from Dorothy Perkins, a pair of suede ankle boots and a mini across body bag. If you have a more formal work, you can also wear a pair of opaque tights underneath the dress, to cover a bit more your legs.

How to wear a bodysuit

Well ladies… The bodysuits are back! You probably remember them from your mother’s wardrobe from the late 80’s or early 90’s, but in fact the good old bodysuit is back in style!

If you’re not familiar with them, you probably are wondering: Is it a one-piece bathing suit? A girdle? A leotard? Nope… a bodysuit can remind a bit of any of those, but is actually a fashionable and stylish wearable piece that can be very versatile. Just like any other fitted top.

Bodysuits left the Spring 2012 catwalks straight to most high street retail stores and they are not as difficult to style as it may seem. They can look stunning in skirts, trousers, shorts and they’re the perfect piece to “tuck in”.

We noticed that some of you are struggling on how to style them, so below, our fashion stylists will give you some ideas on how to wear a bodysuit. The below examples are related to skirts but please keep in mind that you can also pull them off with trousers and shorts:
Outfit 1 (stylist: Ria Johnson)- White Bodysuit, BOOHOO, £4 (SALE) | Skater Skirt, BOOHOO, £12 (SALE) | Sandals, CARVELA, £149 | Pink Clutch, MONSOON, £35 | Leather Cuff, ACCESSORIZE, £12 | Earrings, BOOHOO, £5

But do let us know your thoughts on this. Will you embrace the bodysuit trend?

Stylist tips: How to style yellow

Now that the sun has finally shown its beautiful rays (sometimes even too much)… it’s time to start looking at your wardrobe and thinking which pieces you have to match the gorgeous rays of light. If you don’t have any and need to shop for new clothes, we highly recommend yellow.

Yellow is a very hot colour this Season. Whether in a more neon or a more pale look, it’s definitely a must-have tone for this Summer. There are lots of yellow items in the high street catalogues. Whether in skirts, dresses, tops, trousers, to accessories like bags, clutches, jewellery, and even shoes. We love them all equally….

However, since yellow is such a bright, cheerful, tone, it can also give some headaches when it comes to styling. Which colours can you match it with? Can you wear it with neutral colours without it looking dull or boring?

To answer some of these questions, our fashion stylists put together some outfit ideas to help you go through your style dilemmas. If you have any other questions about style and styling, please ask our stylists in our facebook page (they’ll reply as soon as possible).

Outfit 1- Yellow Midi Dress, AX PARIS, £22 | Envelope Clutch, COLEEN, £27 | Gem Ring, ACCESSORIZE, £7 | Wedge Sandals, STEVE MADDEN, £92

Colour Wheel: Mix & Match Yellow

If you need some extra help on how to pull off an outfit based on yellow, here are some extra tips on which colours match best.

The first thing you need to know when you’re trying to mix colours is that there’s something called the “color wheel” (see image below) that will help you figure out which colours match best with each other. This basically works like this:

Image from Wikipedia
  • The closer the colour is in the wheel, the easier is to match. These are called analogous colours.  In this case, yellow is right next to lemon-yellow and orange yellow, and you’ll find that these two tones are pretty easy to match with pure yellow. If you match in between (or near) those colours, you’ll be fine and it will look great.
  • Colours can be matched based on a complimentary theory. The opposite tone in the wheel is called complimentary. In this case it’s violet. So, violet is the complimentary colour of yellow.
  • Split complimentary. One colour plus the two colours on the other side. For yellow it’s the blue violet/blue and purple.

There are other forms of mix and matching tones. These “rules” apply not just to fashion, but to everything else. Please keep in mind that, like any other rules, they can be broken and they're just guidelines. These were just some simple tips on how to match yellow. If you want to know more about it, read this.

How to style a simple black dress

We all know that the black dress is a must have in every women's wardrobe. But, can you style your simple black dress in to something amazing?

If not styled correctly, a simple black dress is just a plain, boring piece of clothing. But, with the right accessories, it can be not only amazing for evening, but also to many other occasions. Here are a few tips on how to style that black dress that you most likely already have in your wardrobe.

1) Who said black and brown can't be mixed?

You can have your plain black dress styled with a brown bag, belt or even shoes. And it can look amazing!

2) Just because your dress is black you don't have to look like you're going to a funeral

Black is a neutral color that goes with any bright color you like. Or even patterns. While you're wearing your black dress, style it with color, and balance it with a splash of color. You can go from vivid pink, to red, or even light blue... as long as it's a bright color you'll look amazing. This color can be in your shoes, clutch or bag or even in your bracelets, earrings, etc.

Just beware not to use many different colors, because if not done correctly it may be a styling disaster. A recipe that usually never fails is to wear 3 different colors at a time, where one should be neutral (eg: black, white, brown, grey), and the other two have to match. If you don't know which colors match and which don't match, take a look at this post, and read about the color wheel.

3) Don't be afraid to layer it

Dresses can be layered. In fact, the outfit can look awesome with some layers. A good trenchcoat, coat, or even biker jacket (depending on the dress, off course) can be a true plus to the whole outfit. And the jacket doesn't have to be black. It can have color or even a pattern. Get wild with it.

What about you? How do you style your simple black dress?
